Atheism is generally accepted as disbelief in the
existence of a god or gods. The word is
from the Greek atheos, a - ‘without', plus theos -'god’, therefore being without god is to be an atheist. According to the etymology of this word there
is no connotation of belief or unbelief, it is simply a statement. By this understanding, if God doesn’t exist
we are all atheists; we are all ‘without God’.
However, if there is no God the active ongoing attempt by ‘atheists’ to
expunge the very idea of God is an enigma. If there is no God there can be no
restrictions on men living as they please, everyone would be free to do what is
right in their own eyes, and there would be no thought to erase God …if there
was no God.
If there is no God the longing in the hearts of the majority of mankind for
assurance is also an enigma (It is an innate belief in God that puts fear into
death). There would be no thought of
eternity …if there was no God.
But these are not enigmas they have motivation behind each.
First: The very thought, the very concept of God
awakens knowledge of moral law and moral law does not allow men to live as they
please. To those who believe they should have the right to
live as they please, moral law is irksome, and so that law (and the one who institutes it) must be erased.
Active believers in God are a constant reminder of God, so they too also need to be silenced.
Second: Even if the discrediting and
silencing of the Bible narrative comes about it will not silence the concept, the
thought of God. The very concept of God
embraces power, dominion and judgment, and this puts a fear of the unknown into
death, as well putting a ‘damper’ on the ‘freedom’ to live as one pleases.
On a practical plane: Those who want to live as they please don’t seem
to appreciate the truth that freedom must have boundaries of responsibility; they
do not appreciate that it is moral law that restrains lawlessness. We are beginning to see a world where such a
mindset is rampant. God and his moral
law have been rejected. Mankind has
embraced a life style of being ‘without God’.
Academia calls it atheism; God would call it paganism.
