Was the virgin birth a necessity to keep Jesus from being tainted by any connection to Adam? I would say no.

Mary needed to be virgin so that her firstborn could be conceived of God (a holy conception) as per Luke 1:35; and then as the firstborn son of Mary and the son of God he was also sanctified by law as per Luke 2:23.
Christ was a man child and we are told he "was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin" (Hebrews 4:15), therefore from the inspired record we see Jesus, although conceived of God, every bit a man, sanctified from the womb and 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 sinning.

Jesus was the perfect sinless lamb from birth.
